This blogsite was produced in answer to the numerous requests by other researchers, over the years, to supply further documents, photographs etc that had been used in my research. It also provides a little nostalgia for those individual Officers I trained with and whos' company I enjoyed during my career, retiring in 1996. I have not reproduced all the pages from my book as hopefully this site will encourage further sales of those copies still in the cellar at Scarthin Books.
The PC behind the PS in the early MP dog handlers photo is my late uncle Alf Peckham one of the first six met dog handlers. I showed the photo to my dad Ray Peckham today and he said it was his brother Alf. My dad followed his brother in to the dog section. He knew most of the handlers in the photos but could not remember the names as his memory is not as good as it was. He thought the dog about to attack Bert Sayers may have been his first dog Rebel. I have more tails ( excuse the pun) if this message makes it.
ReplyDeleteMy father Ray Peckham died a couple of years ago. I have inherited his archive of photos of his time in the Met Police dog section together with his brother Alf one of the first Met dog handlers as I have mentioned above. I would be happy to share these photos with anyone who would like a copy. Very keen to help anyone writing or researching the history of the Met dog branch. jpeckham@talktalk.net.
